Glenn Close is Fetch-ing as Cruella de Vil for Halloween. It Has Gone to the Dogs!

By: Greg Schreiner

October is the month where ghosts, goblins and evil spirits arise for one evening on Halloween.  And what more evil spirit than Cruella de Vil as portrayed by Glenn Close in “102 Dalmatians”.

This evil creature is out to kidnap the adorable Dalmatians and it looks like nothing can stop her.

Ms. Close wears some incredible costumes designed by Anthony Powell. His great designs have appeared in such movies as “Death on the Nile,  “Travels with my Aunt”, “Tess” and two Indiana Jones moves.  In fact he won an Academy Award for the first 3 movies named.  He was also nominated for an Academy Award for “102 Dalmatians”.

This costume consist of many pieces including a large oversized red and black fur coat, a black full length dress studded with brilliants and an attached ruby and rhinestone necklace, long gloves, knee high leather boots and a hat that appears to have gone crazy.

I originally acquired only the dress, but over the years have been able to find the other missing pieces and complete the costume.  The coat is massive and heavy and envelops the wearer.  But somehow, Ms. Close is able to pull it off and make us believe this costume was the perfect choice for her to wear.  However, this costume is also her downfall at the end of the movie.  But I won’t spoil that surprise for you.
