Is it December already? Seasonal Beauty on the Peninsula and around Southern California By Photographer and Contributor Dianne Gowder
Just seeing all the decorations at this time of year always makes me feel festive.
So whatever you celebrate join me on a little seasonal tour around Southern California.
In a normal year, one of my favorite places to visit during the holiday season Is Terranea, they decorate so beautifully and I love that big tree they usually have out on the lawn.
Nature too likes to dress in her seasonal colors and I know the holidays are approaching as soon as I see the poinsettia start to bloom and the red berries flourishing on the toyon and holly trees.. Here we see La Venta Inn looking very cheerful.
This being California, there boats and palm trees to be decorated and I confess that I love to see lights on the palm trees! When I grew up in England my Dad would go out on Christmas Eve and chop down a pine tree for us to decorate. He always went out after dark. I suspect those pine trees behind our house were not ours for the taking!
Last year I took a drive to downtown LA to look at the lights and fountains around the music Center area, it was beautiful and a lot of fun.
If you are in the mood for a drive and walk around the homes around the canals on Naples Island in Long Beach go all out. It is magical, go early so you can find a parking place!
I hope you are feeling festive now. I want to wish everyone a very Happy and safe holiday season. Many of us will not be spending time with our families this year, myself included, due to the pandemic, so we must make the best of it and appreciate the beauty that surrounds us.
I’ll see you on the trails!

Dianne loves to walk and she tries to do at least 3 miles every day before she heads out to work. Her love of photography evolved from her walks.
“ I have always been amazed by scenery here and more and more I found myself stopping to capture the beauty of my surroundings. As I shared my work I realized that very few people were even aware of what they have on their doorstep!”
Dianne has made it her mission to share the beauty through her photographs and she takes her friends on walks as often as possible.
