Walking Around Malaga Cove

By Photographer and Contributor Dianne Gowder

Let’s start at the parking lot across from the school and head up Paseo Del Mar past the Neighborhood Church. Pretty soon we find ourselves going up hill, but we can always stop and take a minute to admire the view!

Stay on Paseo Del Mar  and head up to Palos Verdes Drive West, turn right and walk a short distance until you get to Via Montemar, we’re going to cross here, carefully, there will be cyclists by the score and speeding cars. As you start up Via Montemar, stop and admire the view again. I like the trees. We will be turning left on to Via Arriba, so enjoy the beautiful homes and flowers but keep an eye out for a set of stairs hidden between homes on the left.

Head down the stairs, you’ll likely meet runners coming, I always move aside so I can social distance. When you get the bottom of the stairs you might get to see a tree arched over the trail on the left, don’t go that way, turn right and head uphill to the next part of the trail. This one takes you parallel to PV drive and ends at Tejon Place. Enjoy the view, in the spring there are nasturtiums growing alongside the trail, and a panoramic ocean view on the other side. There is even a little free library!

We are not done yet, head towards the Plaza along  Tejon place and then turn right on Via Corta, up towards the Library, through the park, where in the spring there is a glorious blooming  cherry tree,  you might spot a peacock or two, also.. stairs.. and on to Via Ramon.

Walk along via Ramon until you reach Via Campesina and turn left, we can head back now. This will take you back to the Plaza if you turn left on Via Chico. There are some beautiful homes and probably more peacocks, not to mention the flowers! A cup of coffee sounds good before we head back down the hill to the car.

Thank you for joining me on another walk. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do. We are so very lucky to be surrounded by so much beauty.

Dianne loves to walk and she tries to do at least 3 miles every day before she heads out to work. Her love of  photography evolved from her walks.

“ I have always been amazed by scenery here and more and more I found myself stopping to capture the beauty of my surroundings. As I shared my work I realized that very few people were even aware of what they have on their doorstep!”

Dianne has made it her mission to share the beauty through her photographs and she takes her friends on walks as often as possible.
