January 15, 1913 California native Lloyd Bridges was born in San Leandro, California. He would later attend UCLA and finally achieved world wide success appearing in more than 150 films.

His most important role for Palos Verdes Peninsula residents would come when he starred in the television series Sea Hunt. His character Mike Nelson is so well remembered that Terranea Resort dedicated one of their dining establishments to character Mike Nelson and Sea Hunt, called Nelson's.

During WWII Bridges served in the United States Coast Guard, later joined U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, 11th District (California) and was made an honorary commodore in the Auxiliary in later years.

Portions of Sea Hunt were filmed around the Peninsula and Catalina Island.

Lloyd Bridges, Mike Nelson and Sea Hunt entertained and helped stimulate the interest of untold numbers of people about marine life during an exciting and revolutionary time in underwater exploration.

Sea Hunt can still be enjoyed today on the internet though Lloyd Bridges is just as famous for being the father of sons Jeff Bridges and Beau Bridges.

We remember Lloyd Bridges on what would be his 109th Birthday. Happy Birthday Mr. Bridges.
