The Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy Welcomes Author Doug Tallamy as Part of a Month of Inspiring Earth Day Activities

The Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy invites you to celebrate Earth Day 2021 with a variety of inspiring and engaging activities.  On Thursday April 22nd at 7 pm join us for a live Zoom event hosted in partnership with the Palos Verdes Library District, Friends of the Library and the California Native Plant Society.  The event will explore ways to renew the Earth and how local impact on the Peninsula makes a difference to the rest of the planet.  The evening Zoom includes a presentation by best-selling author and Wildlife Ecologist Doug Tallamy introducing his book Nature's Best Hope which explores positive ways that local actions can help restore the planet.

Earth Day participants are encouraged to read the book Nature’s Best Hope and participate in a LIVE Zoom Q&A with the author, Doug Tallamy May 1st at 11 am.  To obtain copies of the book and to reserve your spot and receive the Zoom links for both free events, please visit www.pvplc.org/calendar.

Earth Day’s global awareness theme this year is Restore our Earth to “encourage natural system processes to restore the world’s ecosystems and forests, conserve and rebuild soils, improve farming practices, restore wildlife populations and rid the world’s oceans of plastics.” The Conservancy plays a critical role here on the Peninsula in these areas.   From identifying lands needed for preservation that are devoid of plants for sustaining locals species,  growing needed local species in our nursery, removing invasive weeds using environmentally-friendly goats, to planting and caring for local species -- all with the help of dedicated volunteers and support from the community.

The Land Conservancy’s Earth Day activities will continue with an Earth Day event for families on April 24th at 9:30 am.  A special Virtual Family Nature Club on Zoom will celebrate Earth Day-themed family activities and explore what families can do to think globally and act locally to make an impact on the planet.   RSVP at pvplc.org/calendar/family activities
