The Beach Workouts

The Southbay doesn’t lack when it comes to beautiful beaches to workout at.  For the most part, all these workouts require is you, a pair of tennis shoes, a water bottle and maybe Google maps to get you there and back.

RAT (Right After Torrance) Beach:

This beach workout sets you up for the perfect decline walking warm up, followed by a light jog or walk along the coastline to finish up with a steep hike back to Malaga Cove.  Park in the Peninsula Education Foundation parking lot and look for the entrance along the fence line.  Sorry, no pets allowed on this one.

Torrance Beach: so many options

Park in Riviera Village and grab yourself a healthy snack before or after your workout for a real treat or use the paid “beach” parking lot along Paseo De La Playa.

·  Looking for some great legs – choose any of the numerous stairs to climb up and down – great for elevating the heart rate and toning the glutes, hamstrings and quads.

·      Use the cement barrier wall for the perfect “incline” for push-ups and triceps dips.  Want to torture those legs a bit more, add in some step ups on and off the barrier to finish off the ample stair climbing.

·      Those with pets, you can walk on the sidewalk along the beach cliffs from Riviera Village (Paseo De La Playa / Esplanade) and by the houses until you reach Veteran’s Park (309 Esplanade).  Walk to the ocean and follow the side walk behind the houses up the top of the cliffs.  This is about a 2 mile round trip walk.

Torrance to Manhattan

Really looking for doing the distance.  Start your walk/jog off in Torrance and walk all the way up to Manhattan beach.  Along the way you will find great restaurants that you can stop in and enjoy.

Torrance and Beyond*

My family's favorite, this one does involve a bike, is a trip from Torrance Beach all the way up to Venice Beach and back.  Full disclosure, this is a 35 mile round trip bike ride, however if you do it, be sure to walk through the Canals in Venice Beach before turning around.

You can do a shorter bike ride too, and all the bike paths are fully marked for safety and distance.
