SPECIAL EVENTS 

Beauty of Nature Author Series presented by the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy.  Join us March 3rd at 7 pm for a Virtual Live Zoom presentation from Sydney by Charlotte McConaghy, author of the best selling novels, ”Migrations” and Once There Were Wolves. Her writing is fueled by her love of nature and her interest in stories of fierce women. Her newest novel, Once There Were Wolves, is about a biologist charged with reintroducing wolves to the Scottish Highlands in order to re-wild the landscape and bring a forest back to life. Migrations is currently under development for a film featuring Claire Foy and Benedict Cumberbatch.  Inscribed books are available for purchase with tickets for $30.  Event alone $5.  RSVP at: pvplc.org/calendar-fundraising-events/

Wild & Scenic Film Festival On Tour presented by the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy.   April 24, Warner Grand Theatre in San Pedro, at 4 pm - An exciting selection of adventurous and inspirational films about nature. You’ll be moved, transfixed and energized to make a difference in our world. Tickets $20 at the door, $15 advanced purchase online at pvplc.org/calendar 

 VOLUNTEER TRAININGS 

Cactus Wren Monitoring Training for the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy, Saturday, March 5th, 8:30am – 11:30am.  Become a Community Scientist and help monitor the charismatic and rare cactus wren in our preserves!  You will help track the birds, their nests, and their success in rearing babies from March to August.  Sign up at https://pvplc.volunteerhub.com/.


Nature Walk Leader Training Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy, Saturday, March 19th and March 26th, 9am – 12pm.  Share your love of nature with others! Learn the fascinating natural history of the area from experts in the field to assist in leading monthly public guided nature walks around the Peninsula. Sign up at https://pvplc.volunteerhub.com/.

ACTIVITIES

George F Canyon Guided Nature Preserve Walk with the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy, Saturday, March 5th, 10:30am.  You will be guided by a trained naturalist to discover a unique variety of wildlife in their canyon habitat with amazing views of the LA Basin.  Meet outside on the back deck of the George F Canyon Nature Center, Parking in Preserve lot located at 27305 Palos Verdes Drive East, Rolling Hills Estates, CA 90274. No RSVP required.  Rain cancels.  

Guided Nature Walk at White Point Nature Preserve with the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy, Saturday, March 12th, 11:30am.  Explore the preserve and the Tongva native plant demonstration garden with colorful wildflowers in bloom, followed by an exploration of Royal Palms tide pools.  Easy to moderate. Outdoor Volunteer Day at Alta Vicente Reserve with the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy, Saturday, March 5th and March 26th, 9am – 12pm. Come help us to restore habitat on the 22-acre restoration site to create a home for rare cactus wrens and gnatcatchers with beautiful views of Catalina Island. Outdoor Volunteer Day at White Point Nature Preserve with the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy, Saturday, March 12th, 9am – 12pm.  Get outdoors and make a difference by helping to remove invasive grasses to enable rare coastal sage scrub habitat to thrive as a home of local native plants and wildlife. Outdoor Volunteer Day at Abalone Cove Reserve with the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy, Saturday, March 19th, 9am – 12pm.  Join the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy to volunteer at the newest restoration site on a breathtaking coastal reserve helping eradicate invasive weeds to protect native species. PVP Land Conservancy Rapid Response Team, Fridays and Saturdays, 9am - 12pm.  Work alongside the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy staff around the Palos Verdes Nature Preserve to help protect important wildlife habitat.  Help with trail maintenance, fence building, installing signage and more!  No experience needed. 15 and up.
