Five Ways to De-stress Your Brain By Shelley Stockwell-Nicholas, PhD

I teach my neuro-coaching clients five simple ways to have what they want. Give them a go and then happily celebrate YOU.

Here are ways to take it easy at home, play and work…

1. BREATHE FULLY. Think, “In-spiration and relaxation.”

2. MOVE. Yawn, stretch, and gently stroke your hands and forearms, stretch or even wash your hands and you refresh yourself. Just 60 seconds of a pleasurable action releases dopamine so you more easily achieve what you want.

3. AFFIRM. A positive word or phrase like “Peace,” “Harmony,” “I am so glad to be alive!” “Easy does it!” Or “Just DO It Now!” changes you for good. The word “yes” releases feel good hormones (and makes you smile.)

4. DAYDREAM. Lean back and let your mind wander to pleasant places in your imagination. As you enjoy thoughts and feelings, you renew and recharge. Research shows that even a 10-second relaxation break trains neurology and glands to release feel good chemistry and a natural relaxation reflex.

5. FOCUS ON WHAT YOU REALLY WANT. Reflect on your core values and what you really want and need. Your brain loves concrete ideas, so plug into your specific dreams and goals and teach yourself to notice bursts of insight. Then enjoy the gift of coming back to now and getting it done! Joy awaits!
