Experimental Artists of the South Bay Exhibition at Destination: Art

Torrance CA—The South Bay’s one-of-a-kind experimental art organization is marking its 18th anniversary with a five-week exhibition at Destination: Art, featuring 97 works by 23 artists in a variety of mediums and techniques.

The public is invited to the Reception on Saturday July 26, 3 pm to 5 pm.

Inspired by a similar Los Angeles group, The Experimental Artists of the South Bay (EASB) has grown from six members in 2007 to 30 passionate members in 2025.  The membership includes some of the South Bay’s most renowned mixed media artists.

EASB is comprised of two groups which meet monthly on the first Sunday and second Monday, respectively, at Destination: Art, the South Bay Studio and Gallery space known as the community hub for art.

“After trying other local venues, the lure of a larger space and a place to have our annual shows, along with Destination: Art’s prowess in the area persuaded EASB to ‘find a home’ at this remarkable art space,” says 10-year member Jody Wiggins, who continues to be honored to have been selected to join EASB. “This is an incredible art space and the community feeling is unduplicated.”

EASB members take turns presenting a demonstration to the group that is something new or presented in a new way. In order to be juried into the annual exhibition, entries must have been started in a meeting or inspired by a meeting demo…and created in the true spirit of experimentation.  Artists may also sell or donate any artworks borne out of a lesson demo.

“The goal is to come up with usual art techniques and strategies that will motivate our artistic abilities to produce unusual works of art,” Wiggins continued.

EASB Co-founder Lynn C. Mikami said, “Interactions with fellow artists and demonstrations inspire our members to experiment with new methods, materials and tools to enhance and invigorate their personal artistic style.”  Mikami is also a popular instructor at Destination: Art and the recipient of the Dr. Tom Rische Education Award at the 44th Annual Excellence in Arts Awards of the Torrance Cultural Arts Commission.

“EASB artists should be acknowledged as fantastic creative gentle souls who give to Destination: Art, the community and the world,” Wiggins offered.  “The Reception on 7/26 will be an auspicious event for South Bay citizens to enjoy art, meet the artists and learn from what these artists produce.”

The artwork will be on exhibition through August 16.  Gallery hours are Thursdays through Saturdays, 11 am to 4 pm, or by appointment.  Online viewing and purchase:
