SPECIAL EVENTS 

 

Nature & Me Storytime at George F Canyon Nature Center. Friday, May 10th, 10:15am – 10:45am.  Join the Palos Verdes Library District for stories, songs, and rhymes at George F Canyon Nature Center located at 27305 Palos Verdes Dr E, Rolling Hills Estates, CA 90274! Recommended for ages 2-5. No reservations required. 

Nature Club for Kids – Rocks & Fossils with the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy.  Saturday, May 11th.  Join us at White Point Nature Education Center from 10:30-11:30am for a rocks and fossils themed Nature Club! We'll learn about being a geologist and paleontologist while doing fun activities and crafts. This event is free and suitable for ages 5-10.

GUIDED MONTHLY WALKS

Family Nature Walk at George F Canyon Nature Preserve with the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy, Saturday, May 4th, 10:30am.  Naturalists will guide you along a trail through the preserve to discover a unique variety of wildlife in their canyon habitat with amazing views of the LA Basin. Meet on the back patio of the Nature Center and come inside to explore after the hike. Parking in Preserve lot located at 27305 Palos Verdes Drive East, Rolling Hills Estates, CA 90274. Rain cancels. Guided Nature Walk at Linden H. Chandler with the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy, Saturday, May 11th, 9am. Experience this 28-acre nature preserve with blooming native plants.  This restored habitat is home to the endangered Palos Verdes blue butterfly.  Moderate. Guided Family Nature Walk at White Point Nature Preserve with the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy, Saturday, May 18th, 10:30am.  Naturalists will guide you along a trail to discover a unique variety of wildlife in their coastal sage scrub habitat with amazing views across to the ocean.  Meet in front of the Nature Center and come inside to explore after the hike.  Preserve parking available at the end of the street in a gravel lot at 1600 West Paseo Del Mar, San Pedro. Native Plant Sale by the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy May 11th and May 25th – Saturday, May 11th at George F Canyon 10:30am – 12pm, located at 27305 Palos Verdes Dr E, Rolling Hills Estates, CA 90274.   Create your own butterfly garden with a beautiful native plant from the Palos Verdes Peninsula. Our native plant expert will give you professional tips on creating a garden waystation and home for local species!  Join us Saturday, May 25th at White Point Nature Education Center located at 1600 Paseo del Mar, San Pedro 10:30am – 12pm for another chance to get native plants.

VOLUNTEER ACTIVITIES

Outdoor Volunteer Day at Alta Vicente Reserve with the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy, Saturday, May 4th, 9am – 12pm. Come help us to restore habitat on the 22-acre restoration site to create a home for rare cactus wrens and gnatcatchers with beautiful views of Catalina Island. Sign up at pvplc.volunteerhub.com

Outdoor Volunteer Day at Agua Amarga Reserve with the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy, Saturday, May 11th and May 25th, 9am – 12pm. Help remove invasive weeds and care for a community restoration site to benefit wildlife. Sign up at pvplc.volunteerhub.com.

Special Mother’s Day Outdoor Volunteer Day at White Point Nature Preserve with the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy, Sunday, May 12, 9am – 12pm. Join us at White Point Nature Preserve for a special Mother's Day event!  Not only will we be cleaning seeds, planting native plant species and/or removing invasive, non-native plants to restore and improve critical habitat for wildlife at the preserve, and beautify outdoor natural space for the community - but we will also have a fun, family friendly craft/activity to celebrate moms and the mom-like figures in our lives! Sign up at pvplc.volunteerhub.com

Outdoor Volunteer Day at Abalone Cove Reserve with the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy, Saturday, May 18th, 9am -12pm. Join the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy to volunteer on a breathtaking coastal reserve helping restore wildlife habitat.  Students can receive community service hours.  Sign up at pvplc.volunteerhub.com

Help us engage local community members at public events and greet participants at nature walks. No experience needed & flexible schedule. 18+. Become a Team Leader!

Support the Conservancy by providing leadership and oversight during Outdoor Volunteer Days. If you love restoring habitat and working with others, this program is for you! Ages 16+. Must be available to volunteer on Saturday and/or Sunday mornings. Contact Susannah Miles at smiles@pvplc.org

Become a Nature Education Docent

Enjoy sharing your love of nature on the Peninsula with students and nature center visitors. For more information, contact Holly Gray at hgray@pvplc.org 

Volunteer with the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy Rapid Response Team, Fridays & Saturdays, 9am - 12pm.  Work alongside the field staff to help protect important wildlife habitat.  Help with trail maintenance, fence building, installing signage and more!   Students can receive community service hours.  No experience needed. 15 and up.
