Skate to the Beat: LA Kings and Local DJ Bring Roller Rink Nostalgia to the Ice

Remember when the roller rink was the place to be — music thumping, lights flashing, and everyone skating in sync to the beat? Now you can relive that feeling- on ice- at LA Kings Ice Family Public Skate Nights, right here in Palos Verdes. Once a month, a live DJ brings the community together with a soundtrack that makes every lap feel like a memory in motion. For just $15 (including skate rental), it’s a family night out with the kind of prices your parents talked about, but with way cooler music.

Behind the DJ booth is Danny Ryan, a 17-year-old from Palos Verdes Estates and rising talent in the music scene, who was recently selected to attend the prestigious GRAMMY Camp in Miami for DJing and Music Production.

“Live DJ music is uplifting,” said Danny. “You can see the rink come to life when the music hits the speakers. There’s a different energy.”

Danny’s passion for uplifting people through music goes beyond the rink — it’s what inspired him to launch The Free DJ Project, a philanthropic initiative that provides individuals free DJ services for events celebrating resilience, perseverance and joy. Danny started the project with a mission: to give people going through hard times the soundtrack they deserve for any event they are planning — without worrying about the cost.

“Music makes every gathering better. I want everyone to have access to the joy good music brings.”

The energy and heart Danny infuses into every skate night transforms the rink into a spinning soundtrack where families and teens come together to glide to the beat. And with fun upcoming themes like Decades Dance Party, nostalgia is guaranteed.
