I had a date with Danielle to do some Christmas shopping. I relished times alone with my one and only four-year-old granddaughter. Like many others of my generation, I discovered there is nothing better than a grandchild. We have the pleasure of spoiling them, and they love us unconditionally.
I hopped on the freeway, contemplating the day ahead. A car swerved in front of me, creating a near miss and the possibility of an accident. I was still shaken when I arrived at my daughter’s home. Not thinking, I blurted out what happened in front of my granddaughter but quickly toned it down when I saw her eyes grow big as saucers.
Later, as Danielle playfully bounced her feet up and down in the back of my car, she began to ask a multitude of questions—the conversation suddenly taking on a serious undertone.
“Who was driving Grammy? How close did they come? Were you scared?” She took a deep breath and let out a loud sigh. “What if something happened to you?!?”
All of her concern filled my heart with joy. She loved me so much! I was the luckiest woman on earth.
And then without missing a beat, she said, “Who would take me to the Disney Store?”

Danielle is now a young woman and still looks back with her grandmother at this story and they laugh. She admits to being spoiled, but her grandmother always tells her she loved every minute––and still relishes those moments when Danielle takes time out of her busy life to spend time and show her unconditional love.
