The 2021 City of Rolling Hills Estates 64th Celebration Post Event

The 2021 City of Rolling Hills Estates 64th Celebration Post Event

This year’s City Celebration went off without a hitch! Over 1,800 members of the community turned out for the City’s 64th Celebration—marking one of the largest attendance since its inception! The day was action-packed with loads of outdoor events, including the annual Poker Ride which had over 20 prizes donated by local businesses.  Visitors streamed into the Empty Saddle Club to enjoy Pony rides, a Lowes DIY building activity, Rock Wall, petting zoo, and hayrides. Visitors also had an opportunity to stop by a variety of community booths, including the City’s own Pepper Tree Foundation, the Palos Verdes Peninsula Library District, Los Angeles County Sheriff Explorers, Palos Verdes Land Conservancy, and more.

A highlight of the day was the City vs. Sheriff Volleyball Match where the City took home the championship trophy! Though the game was full of good sportsmanship and lots of laughs, the City team managed to expeditiously sweep its Sheriff competitors in two games—sealing its first place victory for the next 12 months.

Visitors also had the opportunity to enjoy delicious hamburgers and hotdogs, with kids participating in old-fashioned games like the watermelon eating competition, water balloon toss and a pony stick race.  Keeping with the traditions of this annual event and honoring our City’s heritage, many equestrian competitions and demonstrations were held throughout the day.

The City was honored to host the Equestrian Drill Team, who led the Flag Ceremony. Rolling Hills Estates Mayor Zuckerman welcomed everyone to the event and paid tribute to Dale Allen, a treasured community member and longtime equestrian who passed away last month. Mayor Zuckerman was joined by his Rolling Hills Estates colleagues, Mayor Pro Tem Frank Zerunyan, Council Member Britt Huff, Council Member Debby Stegura and Council Member Velveth Schmitz as well as several other local elected officials, including Los Angeles County Supervisor Janice Hahn, Rolling Hills Mayor Bea Dieringer, Palos Verdes Unified School District Board President Matthew Brach, and Palos Verdes Library District Trustee President Kingston Wong. Supervisor Hahn honored the City with a Scroll recognizing our 64th birthday!

We thank the many volunteers who helped make this event such an overwhelming success, including the City’s Equestrian Committee and Park and Activities Commission, as well as valued community partners like Palos Verdes Horsemen’s Association, Martin Performance Horses, Empty Saddle Club and our 2021 sponsors, Cal Water and Waste Management.
