The Sky to Sea Dronography and Art of Kerry Stitt

By Megan Oberle

You might see her in the evening, standing solitary in the sand as the sun sinks over the palm trees painting the water pink. She concentrates, zipping her drone across the sky, capturing the dance of light on water.

Or you may find her, wearing a protective mask, covered in color-splattered clothes, heat gun at the ready, pouring resin in her garage studio in Redondo Beach.

Red of Diagonal Turquoise

Wherever you find Kerry Stitt, you can be sure that the ocean is in her heart - filling her ears with its murmur, filling her lungs with salty air; the ocean is this artist’s muse.

Kerry Stitt is a photographer and resin artist, living in Southern California with her family and rescue pup. An artist of many talents, Kerry specializes in art resin pieces, home goods such as cutting boards and trays, photography, and drone videography. Her cutting boards and trays are in 12 stores up and down the coast, including 3 SouthBay stores, Fringe in Redondo, Maison Luxe in Hermosa, and Tabula Rasa in Manhattan Beach.

Solitude

Kerry shows at the popular Resin Gallery in Hermosa Beach, and has taught resin technique classes there. She creates large resin ocean scenes and abstracts on both canvas and wood slabs. The natural grain of the wood shines through and adds another dimension to her work.

Her photography has been featured in Westways Magazine, El Segundo Scene Magazine, Expedia, Orange Coast Magazine for Gulf Stream restaurant, Hermosa Newsletter, as well as Corona Del Mar Plaza Magazine. You can also find her photos on Utility boxes in Redondo Beach and Manhattan Beach, CA. She is a regular participant at the annual Manhattan Beach Hometown Fair and other local art and craft fairs.

Though Kerry has been a photographer and artist for over 30 years, her love of photography was amplified exponentially when she got her drone license and began using her drone to capture images of sun and sand, water, and waves. “Every picture of the waves is different” Kerry marvels. Since obtaining her FAA drone certificate in 2016 she has worked on real estate videos and was hired by The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce to shoot a drone video to open up their 2017 summit. The film “Road to 50 miles” features some of her drone work. She’s represented by the Farm Boy Fine Arts agency and her photographs can be found in hotels across America.

Sunbathing at the Emerald Ocean

Kerry with Boards

Kerry lives just a few blocks from the water and frequently paddleboards, takes long walks on the beach, even practices yoga on the sand. Her camera is her companion and she feels inspired continuously by the beauty and variability of the ocean.
