Portuguese Bend 2025 National Horse Show - September 5 - 7, 2025
From Friday, September 5, through Sunday, September 7, 2025, residents of Palos Verdes are cordially invited to attend the Portuguese Bend National Horse Show at Ernie Howlett Park. This top-tier event has been hosting three days of unique equestrian competitions for 67 years. In the first riding ring, riders aged 14–34 will compete in the coveted Pacific Coast Horse Association Horsemanship Medal Finals, while riders aged 35 and over will take part in the PCHA Victor Hugo Vidal Adult Horsemanship Class. Not to mention the two $2,500 Hunt & Go Derbybies, the $10,000 Harman Family Jr-A/O Jumper Classic, and the $15,000 Seahorse Open Jumper Classic, all of which are sure to test the mettle of the best jumper riders on the West Coast. As a way to thank the trainers who put so much effort into their riders so that they can compete successfully, this year we will also be sponsoring the Winning Trainer Awards. There will be a grand total of $5,000 in prizes for the best trainer this year.
On a three-day scale, this exhibition outsells all others in the Western US. Featuring food booths, shops, puppet shows, pony rides, animal shows, games, a moon bounce, face painting, and more, this Palos Verdes community event will transport attendees back in time to a classic town fair. From 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Friday and Sunday, and from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, you may find the Children's Area. The Peninsula Committee Children's Hospital is hosting this event to raise money for Children's Hospital Los Angeles.
The daily riding competitions will start promptly at 8:00 a.m. All day access is free on Friday, however general admission is $10 on Saturday and Sunday, with children under 12 admitted free of charge. There is a free shuttle service and parking is right across the street from the venue. Additional VIP parking is offered for $200 per day (or $500 for three days).
