Hypnosis: Believe It or Not By Shelley Stockwell-Nicholas, Ph.D. President of the International Hypnosis Federation

A belief is something that is true for YOU. If your belief serves you well– all the better. If your belief hurts you– there’s trouble in River City!

Self-limiting beliefs evoke unwanted habits and behaviors that make you downright miserable. What you believe can make you buy things you don’t need and act in hurtful ways that can literally kill you. Or, what you believe, can enhance your natural gifts and help you thrive and be happy.

Beliefs begin with self-talk or self-hypnosis. Real or imagined, a belief you embrace influences the choices you make.

A visit to a hypnotist teaches you to positively alter thoughts to transform limiting beliefs, patterns and behaviors to beneficial ones. You make yourself more pro-active and more easily achieve your dreams and goals. Hypnosis is freely used by the media, advertisers, religious leaders, motivational speakers, parents, teachers, politicians, drug companies, and, of course, by and for yourself.

A professional Hypnotist, Hypnotherapist or Hypnocounselor, wakes you up from foolish beliefs and guides you into smart beliefs– ones that serve you best and bring you to know yourself better and achieve what you really want and need.

Mind mastery is your gateway to nourishing beliefs and a happy, healthy and organized life… a most practical tool indeed. That’s why many hypnotherapists teach you to use self-hypnosis. It is fun and easy to learn and in fact, it came with the package of your consciousness. You regularly hypnotize yourself with your inner dialogue.

That’s why hypnosis is the first choice for those who want to stop smoking reduce stress or become their I-deal size and shape. It’s a terrific strategy to excel in sports, the arts and the sciences. Hypnosis is used in education, law enforcement, government agencies, medicine, and the military. It abates discomfort and is used to replace anesthesia in surgery. For these reasons, prestigious universities like Stanford and Harvard include a segment of hypnosis education in their curriculums.

Professional hypnotists help you to help yourself and do not “cure,” “diagnose,” “treat” or “prescribe” unless they are also a licensed medical practitioner. Some Professional hypnotists go as far as putting “non-medical, non-chemical, non-invasive” on their business card to clarify the point further.

Though completely different, hypotists and medical professionals often work side by side and refer clients to one another.

Sometimes hypnosis is renamed and sold as focused prayer, treatment, guided imagery, meditation, NLP, hypno-coaching, visualizations, conditioning, psychotherapy, creative imagination and many other titles. Still a rose is a rose.

HOW TO HYPNOTIZE YOURSELF

So the bottom line, hypnosis is a powerful tool that makes you the best version of yourself… That’s what I believe and I’m sticking to this one for sure.

Here is an easy one from my newly revised “Stockwell’s Dictionary Script Book… Give it a go…

Dr Shelley’s Self-Hypnosis Script: “Close your eyes and look up. Imagine gazing through a window in your forehead at the full moon. Inhale… Good… As you breathe out, relax and let your eyes relax completely. Again, looking up at the moon; inspiration… and out… relax. Good. And now a third full breath look up and as you let it out, relax all over your eyes relax. Say ‘Calm and relaxed, relax, relax.… with easy breath… Then say something kindly to yourself… Well done!”
