(Dr Shelley’s newest book, “Vagal Joy (if you have the nerve) The Art and Science of Hypno-Neurology” was just released this week. It is an easy read loaded with practical things you can do to be happy, healthy and wise.)

Just imagine:

Someone pats you on the back and you flush in a rush of pride.

Beautiful music drifts you to ecstatic rhapsody.

An attractive someone walks by and you melt.

You think of a lemon and salivate.

You have to give a speech and break into a cold sweat.

You stop to think and forget to start again.

All this because you have a lot of nerve; a lot of Vagal Nerve to be exact.

Your vagal nerve is a bundle of nerves that begins at the back of your head at the top of your neck, and literally controls the spin you put on everything. If you fight, flee, freeze or dance, laugh and relax is a biological decision made neurologically inside your sweet brain.

Your vagal nerve takes into account your inner and outer dialogue and environment to determine how you respond biochemically which THEN determines how you feel. Here is a personal note from your good old Vagal.

VAGAL JOY! A PERSONAL NOTE:

“Dear One, my job is to keep you alive. I electro/chemically transmit sensory input, self-talk, beliefs and programs to all of you. The spin I broadcast determines your every thought, emotion and action.

I’m in charge of your heart beat, breath, sensuality. digestion, and elimination. I use your current reactions, thoughts, emotion and action to predict future responses.

I live in YOU, for YOU and love YOU,

Your Vagal Nerve.”

As a professional hypnotherapist for over fifty years, I never could grokk “mind.” Can you? Even my most learned colleagues seem stymied when you ask them to define mind. Even so, it hasn’t stopped a never-ending categorizing “mind” as conscious, sub-conscious, and super conscious. I decided long ago to think of mind like electricity… something we know how to use yet exactly what it is, remains unknown?

Now, I’ve figured it out. MIND is your Vagal Nerve.

WHAT IS NEURO-HYPNOSIS

Neuro-Hypnosis is a cutting-edge art and science that combines intentional body movement with uplifting self-talk to evoke neuro-plasticity that keeps you at the top of your game. My newest book (number 26!) serves up delicious recipes for your comfort, ease and dynamic action.

How easy it is to play your vagal nerve like a Stratovarius violin! Here is an example of neuro-hypnosis for relaxation:

 HYPNO-NEURAL INDUCTION!

1. Notice how you feel on a scale of one to ten… (“10” is terrific).

2. Sit up straight and take a full breath and look up... Hold it…

3. As you breathe out, look down and let out a nice juicy AHHH sound… Good.

4. Do it again… Look up and inhale… Hold it… Look down, and this time, exhale with a juicy AHHH sound… Smile…

5. On a scale of one to ten, what number are you now?

VAGAL JOY! A PERSONAL NOTE: “Dear One, I love vibration and the out-breath. When you sit up straight, breathe fully and vibrate with an AHHH sound (or sing, hum, gargle, or ohm) it tells me to biologically boost your comfort level. I love YOU.”
