Ceramics, Paintings, and Mixed Media: The Diverse Art of Kimie Joe

Kimie Joe's journey through the realm of artistry has recently brought her back to the South Bay. We caught up with her to learn more about this exciting local artist. Starting from her creative beginnings as a young child crafting origami toys, to the profound turning point as a mother, her path as an innovative and heartfelt artist has unfolded.

Her career as a professional artist began with capturing the essence of her own children through vibrant impressionistic portraits. Her artistic expression garnered attention from others, and word spread, leading her to offer custom paintings to parents and collectors. Her artistic journey evolved as she ventured across the globe, capturing remote landscapes, historic locations, and diverse cultures. Embracing new challenges and opportunities that life presented, she established and closed art studios, participated in art workshops, and hosted paint parties. Along the way, she pursued her passion, connected with fellow artists, and continued to learn.

Educated at Tufts University and trained as a chemical engineer for the International Space Station project, Kimie Joe also earned an advanced degree in Multimedia and Creative Technologies from USC, where she went on to work as a visualization engineer for Northrop Grumman. These tangible real-world experiences merged seamlessly with her artistic pursuits, creating a space where creativity met innovation. After relocating to the East Coast, her journey led her back to her roots in Los Angeles/South Bay. Here, she expanded her artistic repertoire to include the world of ceramics.

Kimie Joe's latest creations reflect her multifaceted life, blending the roles of a woman, mother, engineer, and intrepid traveler. Her current pieces are a testament to her present state – mixed media works composed of vibrant paints, epoxy, upcycled materials, and handcrafted ceramic tiles.

In the South Bay, you can find Kimie Joe shaping ceramics, painting on canvas, and crafting unique mixed media pieces at her home studio in Redondo Beach. She also paints and teaches en plein-air at Terranea Resort in Palos Verdes. You're invited to paint alongside Kimie Joe at the South Bay Artists Studio, where you can learn to paint a portrait of your pet or a bouquet of bold blooms. Additionally, she volunteers as a docent for Young at Art and teaches senior guests at Casa De Los Amigos.

Kimie Joe's beautiful artwork is available for purchase at local art fairs, the CherryCo gallery in Redondo Beach, and by directly contacting her through her website or social media. We are thrilled to welcome Kimie Joe back to our local community. We encourage you to connect with Kimie Joe and make her artwork a meaningful part of your own story.
