Grace, Giving & Generations: A Beautiful Afternoon at the NCL Palos Verdes Tea

On Sunday afternoon, the National Charity League Palos Verdes Chapter gathered for its annual Mother-Daughter Tea at the Palos Verdes Golf Club, and the day was nothing short of magical. The elegant décor, joyful chatter, and heartwarming sight of mothers and daughters celebrating together filled the room with grace and gratitude.
This year’s tea spotlighted a meaningful collaboration with Maria’s Closet, a San Pedro–based nonprofit that has dressed over 4,000 young women in financial need for their prom or formal events. Over the past three years, NCL Palos Verdes and Maria’s Closet have built a powerful partnership — one rooted in compassion, service, and the shared mission of empowering young women throughout Los Angeles County.
As part of the afternoon’s fashion show, NCL seniors gracefully showcased elegant gowns generously donated to Maria’s Closet by designer and partner Andrea & Leo and LA Divine. These stunning dresses will soon be hand-selected by girls served through Maria’s Closet — young women in financial need who dream of attending their prom — at the organization’s next annual Big Give, scheduled for March 22, 2026.
Each year, NCL members volunteer alongside Maria’s Closet at this signature event, where more than 400 girls receive free prom dresses, shoes, and accessories — along with encouragement, mentorship, and a lasting sense of confidence.
“The mothers and daughters of NCL Palos Verdes bring such light and heart to our mission,” said Ronna Luna, founder of Maria’s Closet. “Their service has helped us reach more girls and remind each one that she is seen, celebrated, and deserving.”
Sunday’s tea beautifully embodied what both organizations stand for — connection, compassion, and community — showing that when women unite across generations to lift others, the ripple effect reaches far beyond one afternoon.
If you’re looking to get involved, Maria’s Closet invites community members to become volunteer stylists for these amazing young ladies, or to donate beauty products, accessories, or financial support to help make prom dreams come true.
