Vladimir Khomyakov: A Virtuoso’s Journey from Ukraine to the South Bay
When Vladimir Khomyakov sits at the piano, time seems to stand still. His performances—equal parts technical mastery and emotional depth—have captivated audiences on stages across Europe, Asia, and the Americas. But behind the spotlight lies an extraordinary story of talent, opportunity, and dedication that brought this Ukrainian-born piano prodigy to L.A.'s South Bay, where he now inspires the next generation of musicians.
A Life-Changing Encounter
Vladimir’s musical journey began in Ukraine and led him to some of the world’s most prestigious institutions. He earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the St. Petersburg Rimsky-Korsakov Conservatory, followed by his first doctorate at the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory, where his artistry flourished.
At age 21, his life took a dramatic turn during the finals of the Rubinstein International Piano Competition in Germany. Among the panel of judges was the celebrated USC Professor of Music, Daniel Pollack, who was so impressed by Vladimir’s performance that he extended a life-changing invitation: to study at the USC Thornton School of Music on a full scholarship.
Vladimir accepted—and went on to complete his second doctorate at USC. That pivotal moment opened the door to an international career and a new chapter of his life in America.
A Distinguished Career
Since then, Vladimir has earned top prizes at numerous international piano competitions and has dazzled audiences around the globe. Now a proud American citizen, he continues to thrive as a concert pianist, recording artist, and mentor.
Locally, he serves as Director of Music at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Rancho Palos Verdes and is the Founder and Artistic Director of the Glissando Music and Arts Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to supporting young musicians through concerts, competitions, and educational programs. Alongside his wife, pianist Anna Goryacheva, he also co-directs the acclaimed Elite Piano Institute, shaping future generations of classical talent.
