VEFA Gallery presents Veiled Resonance – Zhengyao Zuo Chinese Master Artist Solo Exhibition By Contributor and Artist Lynne LaFleur

Master Artist Zhengyao Zuo

This solo exhibition by Chinese Master Artist Zhengyao Zuo bridges the meditative depth of Chan Buddhism with the material rigor of traditional Chinese porcelain and ink painting.

Sacred Grove XVIII

An Ink Painting workshop with Master Zhengyao Zuo will be held Sunday, January 4th from 11am to 3pm – only 16 seats are available. This is not a demonstration or lecture. This is a rare, hands-on transmission of knowledge and the expressive power of traditional ink painting, brush control, saturation and breath-driven movement. This teaching will demonstrate how the artist mixes paint pigment with ink and how to saturate this highly absorbent paper, which is made exclusively in Asia.

Each participant receives a personal calligraphy and ink set and fine art materials to keep, direct personal instruction and critique from Master Zuo, and a thoughtfully prepared lunch shared in company.

Notice the perspective Zhenhyao Zuo has chosen when painting plants – at eye level - we are no more significant than these plants, a philosophy in the Buddhist sutra that plants are the soul of Earth, the skin of the earth, holding the Earth together.

Han’s Frontier

Encompassing both his multidisciplinary artistry of porcelain and color paintings on paper, the viewer experiences the interplay between tradition and innovation, Eastern and Western philosophies.

After spending a decade in Jingdezhen, the historic porcelain capital of China, Zuo immersed himself in a lineage of craftsmanship that dates over a 1,000 years. His porcelain vessels, fired through elemental ritual, are at once sculptural objects and vessels of breath, time and transformation. For every masterpiece there are a thousand broken pieces, three to five days at 1200º and if the temperature varies even 3 degrees the piece is broken.
