Listed on the National Registered of Historic Places, the Point Fermin Lighthouse began construction in 1874.  The Stick Style Victorian architecture by Paul J. Pelz is characterized by horizontal siding, decorative beams and a hand carved porch which was used in six lighthouses built between 1873-1874

On the coast of Palos Verdes there’s a multitude of hiking trails for the avid outdoorsman - but if you are looking for a memorable destination to hike to, it’s worthwhile to take a hike down to the SS Dominator Shipwreck. The rusty ruins of the SS Dominator lie washed up on the shore of Palos Verdes Point, on the north side of Lunada Bay.

John Joseph Haggarty was a wealthy department store owner who immigrated from England in 1887.  He founded the New York Cloak and Suit House (dba Haggarty's) in 1905.  In 1912 he built a mansion at 3330 West Adams, which was the hub of Los Angeles high society at the time, and later built a weekend house on the shore in Long Beach at 1800 East Ocean. 

Marilyn Monroe, Audrey Hepburn, Brigitte Bardot, Elizabeth Taylor and other notable celebrities were joined at the PVAC by a swarm of of chic sophisticates for the cocktail reception that accompanied their unveiling. The fabulous photography of notable photographer and book author, Douglas Kirkland made it all possible.
