Paws and Parties: How Katy Cable Revolutionized Dog-Inclusive Entertaining with 'Party With Your Pup'

Gone are the days when dogs are locked away in a spare bedroom not to be seen or heard during a soiree. Nowdays, in many cases, the dogs ARE the party. With the help of Katy Cable’s new, first-of-it’s-kind book, “Katy Cable’s Party With Your Pup!” (Amazon books) anyone can master epic, dog-inclusive entertaining.

Cable has led the pack with this growing trend. What began as running a small neighborhood Pug meetup group, soon grew to nearly a thousand four-legged friends turning out for the Pug Beach Bonanza at Rosies Dog Beach in her Long Beach neighborhood.

From there, Cable helped orchestrate high-profile events including the Las Vegas Pug Parties. These annual pilgrimages drew thousands of Pugs all across the nation to Sin City for Pajama Pizza Parties, a Pug Prom, and even the world’s largest Pug Wedding officiated by none other than Elvis himself.

“Dogs are no longer limited to life in the backyard. They have become cherished family members. It’s not uncommon to see toddlers on leashes and dogs in strollers. People dress their pets, bring them everywhere they go, and even throw lavish parties for them.”

Funny enough, this lady who literally wrote the book on dog-inclusive entertaining, wasn’t always a dog person. “My husband had to twist my arm when our daughter begged for a dog. I wanted nothing to do with a pet. I finally caved when I remembered my favorite book growing up was ‘Eloise at the Plaza.’ Eloise had a cute Pug dog, and my daughter reminded me of Eloise. After researching the breed, we rescued a darling little Pug named Raisin and he turned our lives rightside up! As great as Pugs are, they’re a sensitive breed. Raisin had more issues than Vogue, and I learned so much in the 10 years we had him.”

In 2015, Cable’s daughter left for college. Feeling depressed and bored, she dove into volunteering with various pug rescues and adopted a new Pug, Little Black Olive. She also took a job as a part-time brand ambassador for a new healthy petfood, Nulo. “When I started working with Nulo, I learned so much about pet nutrition. I gave Nulo to the sick dogs in my care at the shelter and was blown away by what I witnessed. I saw firsthand how premium food and simple, wholesome ingredients could transform an animal.”

Most pet parents I helped, had dogs with sensitive stomachs, digestive issues, allergies, skin and coat problems, or they were extremely picky. In order to help people avoid the same mistakes I had made with Raisin, I started a blog, THE WEEKLY RUNT. It offers simple, tips and tricks to save pet parents a house payment in vet bills.”

Cable’s blog, with personal stories and easy-to-follow suggestions, resonated with pet parents. It now reaches over 2 million readers a week. In addition, she has been promoted to a full-time, National Accounts manager for Nulo Pet foods. After rehabilitating thousands of needy cats and dogs over the last 15 years, Cable knows a thing or two about pet nutrition

In 2016, Cable faced her own health crisis which brought things full circle. “My hair began coming out in clumps, I was falling asleep in my car on my lunch break, and worst of all, I found myself packing on the pounds despite the face I was starving myself on the cabbage soup diet.” Soon after, she was diagnosed with Hashimotos.

“It sounded like a fancy Tappan restaurant, but it’s an autoimmune condition where the body attacks the thyroid like a foreign invader. In order to heal, I had to give up EVERYTHING I loved! Chocolate, sugar, dairy, gluten, processed foods, even my favorite veggies like broccoli were nightshades and had to go. My diet was truly the DIE in diet and HELL in Healthy.”

During the Covid quarantine, all Cable’s events were cancelled. She used that time figuring out how to convert all her favorite foods into healthier versions she could eat. While experimenting, she realized many of the foods could be slightly modified and be safe and healthy for dogs.

“A TV producer friend, Caitlin Cutt-Lemaire, encouraged me to put my recipes, health tips and party ideas into a book and ‘Katy Cable’s Party With Your Pup!’ was born. Once I had written the final draft, I enlisted a brilliant artist-pug mom friend, Catherine Large, to bring it to life. We had the time of our lives testing recipes and dressing up our pugs for photo shoots. Cat’s dog, (Pun intented) Jewels is a rare picky pug and my pug Olive eats everything so it was a perfect balance of taste-testers.

Last October, “Party With Your Pup!” was released to drooling human and canine crowds. These were not your run-of-the-mill booksignings but full-scale, dog-inclusive events drawing hundreds. Dogs came dressed in their finest designer couture and guests enjoyed a mouth watering variety of dog-friendly dishes such as: delicious pumpkin spiced lattes, apple cobbler, and turkey tacos.

“My book features loads of easy recipes you can share with your dog. It’s very simple and takes all the guesswork out of cooking. Plus it offers full menus and party ideas for each month of the year. I’ve also included my most popular tips from my blog such as, a new puppy checklist, natural flea remedies, how to heal hot spots and allergies and much, much, more. It’s a perfect alternative to a pricey dog meal delivery service, or fresh dog food. Those can run twice as much as human foods. People can stretch their pet food dollar and try my recipes. I use simple ingredients most people already have in their kitchens. The dishes are seasonal, healthy, and delicious. Best of all, a child can master most all the recipes with ease. I promise, nobody will notice the gluten and sugar are gone.”

Cable, cut her teeth as an actress and appeared in many TV shows and movies including, Safe at Home, and BACK TO THE FUTURE. She is thrilled to be getting back in front of the camera. She is currently in pre-production to bring her book to the small screen.

The response I received was unbelievable. People are always asking me when I’m doing another ‘Party with your Pup’ event. So now I’m making it into a TV show.”

“It’s truly my dream come true. I’m working with a brilliant team of creatives and celebrating our beloved dogs, with fun events and tasty food.” The pilot should be finished this spring.”

In the meantime, grab, a copy of, “Katy Cable’s Party With Your Pup!” and start enjoying the recipes. It makes a perfect gift for any dog lover, young and old. Book proceeds support local animal rescues and shelters. You can also keep up to date by following Cable on social media and subscribing to her blog, THE WEEKLY RUNT.
