SPECIAL EVENTS      

Trailblazers Wanted: Intro to Trail Crew Training with the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy, Saturday, August 2nd, 9am – 12pm at Hesse Park, RPV.  Learn about trail building and maintenance from a nationally-recognized trail expert covering various techniques for erosion repair, building rock walls, proper pruning and more! NEW! From Roots to Blooms: Native Garden Tour Experience with the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy, Saturday, August 23rd at 11:00-11:30am. Come tour the White Point Native Plant Garden and learn about how to grow and care for native plants. Meet at White Point Nature Education Center located at 1600 Paseo del Mar, San Pedro . Monthly every 4th Saturday.

Guided by Nature: Explore George F Canyon Nature Preserve with the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy, Saturday, August 9th, 9am. Wander along a willow-lined canyon stream with restored coastal sage scrub habitat.  Look down on the Peninsula’s exposed Catalina schist outcropping from one of the few places you can see this exposed rock in the LA Basin.  Easy to moderate.  Park in dirt lot on the southwest side of Palos Verdes Drive East about 400 ft. south of Palos Verdes Drive North.  Meet at the Stein Hale trailhead.  Sign up at:  pvplc.org/calendar  

Nature Club for Kids- Reptiles, Saturday, August 9th, 10:30am – 11:30.  Join us at White Point Nature Education Center for a reptile themed nature club. We'll do some fun reptile activities and meet our live reptile ambassadors! Ages 3-10. 

Storytime Tails: Remarkable Reptiles, Sunday, August 10th, 10:30-11:30am  

Join us at White Point Nature Education Center for fun stories about the cool critters that live on the nature preserve with crafts and hands-on activities. Recommended for kids ages 3-6 and their caregivers. 

GUIDED MONTHLY ACTIVITIES        

Guided Nature Walk at George F Canyon Nature Preserve with the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy, Saturday, August 2nd, 10:30am.  Naturalists will guide you along a trail through the preserve to discover a unique variety of wildlife in their canyon habitat with amazing views of the LA Basin. Meet on the back patio of the Nature Center and come inside to explore after the hike.  Parking in Preserve lot located at 27305 Palos Verdes Drive East, Rolling Hills Estates, CA 90274. 1st Wednesday Bird Walk at White Point Preserve with the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy on Wednesday, August 6th at 9am. Join expert Bob Shanman meeting in front of White Point Nature Education Center for a free bird walk with an experienced naturalist, binoculars provided. 1600 Paseo del Mar, San Pedro, CA 90731 

Bring Nature Home: Native Plant Sales by the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land ConservancySaturday, August 9th at George F Canyon 10:30am – 12pm, located at 27305 Palos Verdes Dr E, Rolling Hills Estates, CA 90274.   Create your own butterfly garden with a beautiful native plant from the Palos Verdes Peninsula. Our native plant expert will give you professional tips on creating a garden waystation and home for local species!  Join us Saturday, August 23rd at White Point Nature Education Center located at 1600 Paseo del Mar, San Pedro 10:30am – 12pm for another chance to get native plants.

OUTDOOR VOLUNTEER ACTIVITIES  

Hands-On Conservation with Ocean Views at Abalone Cove with the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy, Saturday, August 2nd, 9:15am –12:15pm and Saturday, August 30th, 9:15am - 12pm. Join the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy to volunteer on a breathtaking coastal reserve helping restore wildlife habitat.  Students can receive community service hours.  Sign up at pvplc.volunteerhub.com    

Roll Up Your Sleeves to Beautify the White Point Nature Preserve with the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy , Sunday, August 3rd, 9am – 12pm and Sunday, August 17th, 9am - 12pm.  Join us at White Point Nature Preserve! We will be working to maintain the preserve's restoration area of native plant species to improve critical habitat for wildlife at the preserve and beautify outdoor natural space for the community.  Students can receive community service hours. Canyon to Coast: Help Restore Agua Amarga's Scenic Beauty with the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy, Saturday, August 9th, 9am – 12pm. Help remove invasive weeds and care for a community restoration site to benefit wildlife. Students can receive community service hours. Sign up at pvplc.volunteerhub.com.      

Bluffside Beautification: Volunteer Day at Alta Vicente Reserve with the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy , Saturday, August 16th, 9am - 12pm. Come help us to restore habitat on the 22-acre restoration site to create a home for rare cactus wrens and gnatcatchers with beautiful views of Catalina Island. Act Fast for Nature: Help Restore Trails & Safeguard Wildlife with the Rapid Response Team of the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy

Fridays and Saturdays from 9am to noon. Join the Rapid Response team to help maintain our trails and protect important wildlife habitat! You will assist staff with various easy to moderate trail maintenance activities such as closing unauthorized trails, trimming and clearing brush, minor tread repair, and other projects (Minor hiking involved). 15 years+. Nature Ambassadors: Join the Community Outreach Team of the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy      

The Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy is looking for volunteers who enjoy sharing their love of nature and the Peninsula at community events around the South Bay. Join the Community Outreach volunteer team to help engage the local community for events and greet participants of our free monthly guided nature walks. No experience needed & flexible schedule. Nature Mentors in Action: Docents Inspire Tomorrow’s Environmental Stewards with the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy -  The Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy is seeking volunteer education docents who would enjoy working with students, either in the classroom or for field trips and to greet visitors at one of two nature centers the Conservancy manages.
